More Than a Century of Pathé: An Impressive History
It’s not just Pathé’s modern-day innovations that impress; the brand has been pioneering for over a century. It all started in Paris in 1896, to be exact. The four Pathé brothers were early pioneers in cinematography, producing films and developing film equipment. And with great success! ‘Pathé Frères’ quickly became the world’s largest film producer. In 1906, they opened the first real cinema in Paris: Omnia Pathé, where they screened world news on the big screen. The first Pathé cinema in the Netherlands opened its doors in Scheveningen in 1995. In the years that followed, Pathé expanded its number of cinemas in the Netherlands to over 30.

Over the course of more than 100 years, the world of audio-visual technology has evolved significantly. Film transitioned from black and white to color, and sound was introduced—fun fact: both innovations were pioneered by Pathé! From there, advancements followed rapidly: 3D, IMAX, 4DX, Dolby Cinema, and ScreenX. Today, Pathé offers much more than just film, from gaming and escape rooms to a stylish cocktail bar—and of course, a stage for business events.

Pathé Gems for Business Gatherings
Which Pathé venues should be on your list when organizing events? Each location has its own unique advantages and impressive features. “The choice of venue often depends on the region where you want to host your event. But if you ask me which venues are true gems, I don’t have to think twice,” says Kyra. “That would be Pathé Ede, Utrecht Leidsche Rijn, and of course, the iconic Tuschinski Amsterdam with all its charm.”
Pathé Ede: This venue has been around for about 20 years and is fully designed for business gatherings during the day and films in the evening. “For example, the foyers here are larger, there’s a separate entrance, and technically, the auditoriums are equipped a bit differently than standard cinema halls. There’s more lighting and sound, which is quite unique to Pathé Ede,” Kyra explains. Fun fact: There is a hall with 1,000 seats where the tiered seating can be fully retracted into the ceiling, creating a blank canvas for any event.
Pathé Utrecht Leidsche Rijn: “This is a very open and bright location,” says Kyra. “It features a rooftop cinema that can be fully rented out for parties, receptions, or even a barbecue. From here, you get a stunning panoramic view of Utrecht city center, with the Dom Tower as the shining centerpiece.”
Pathé Royal Theater Tuschinski Amsterdam: Not everyone knows that the famous Tuschinski in Amsterdam is a Pathé venue. “A venue that practically sells itself,” says Kyra. “It’s a location of absolute grandeur and the premier event space in the Netherlands. If you don’t need seating, we can build a floor over the seats, creating an open space with endless possibilities—from a Tuschinski-themed dinner to a corporate party in a unique ballroom setting.” In addition to its grand auditorium, Tuschinski also features several smaller boutique cinema halls. Kyra adds, “It’s wonderful to host events in these spaces, followed by a reception in the VIP lounge. An event at Tuschinski leaves a lasting impact.”
